Asda offers a range of insurance policies for your pet

If you are a pet owner, you'll no doubt be well aware that vet's bills can be an unexpected expense if your furry friend falls ill or has an accident.

But did you know that, in addition to selling groceries, clothing and televisions, supermarket group Asda also sells insurance for your pet?

Asda pet care insurance covers X-rays, medicine, surgery and nursing care for your four legged companions. It can also help with costs involved in theft and straying, overseas travel or quarantine.

There are three levels of cover to choose from - Value, Standard and Superior - so there is something to suit most pockets.

Value cover starts from £4.20 for cats and £8.60 for dogs, Standard from £4.85 for cats and £10.85 for dogs, and Superior from £5.55 for cats and £14.00 for dogs.

And if you have two or more pets, you will be able to benefit from up to 20 per cent discount if you buy online.

A bereavement counselling service is also included in the price to help you and your family cope in the event of losing a beloved dog or cat.

The Asda Superior cat and dog insurance has been awarded a Defaqto 5 Star Rating, which is a high accolade for financial products.

But as with all insurance policies, terms and conditions apply and can very between providers, so always check what is covered and what is not covered. In this case, pre-existing conditions, along with what are called routine, preventative or elective treatments, are not covered.
